Social Studies: United States history, economics, and government.
We begin with the political, economic and social development of the English colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries. We will study the early development of democratic ideas, including the events that led to the independence of the original Thirteen Colonies and the formation of our national government under the U.S. Constitution. We will also learn about the expansion of the United States, and the major conflicts of the 19th century, including the War of 1812, conflicts with Native Peoples, and the Civil War. We will study these topics by exploring the theme and questioning the statement, 'All men are created equal'.
